The President of United States, Donald Trump has finally agreed to start making preparations for Joe Biden’s take over as president.
According to a report by Bloomberg, the General Services Administration acknowledged Democrat Joe Biden as the apparent winner of the presidential election on Monday, following weeks of silence, and that Trump called on the agency to cooperate with Biden.
Trump told the General Services Administrator, Emily Murphy, “I am recommending that Emily and her team do what needs to be done with regard to initial protocols, and have told my team to do the same.”
The agency is saddled with the responsibility of easing the president-elects transition into the White House.
With the latest development, Biden and his transition team can now have access to current agency officials, briefing books and other government resources, including the sum of $6 million in funding for the task.
However, Trump insists on continuing his legal challenge of the election he alleges was massively rigged in favour of the Democratic party’s candidate.
The approval of Trump for the transition process to begin comes after the Michigan Board of State Canvassers voted to certify the election’s results, in addition to the call by nine Republican senators for the transition process to begin.
A letter sent by Murphy to Biden read, “Because of recent developments involving legal challenges and certifications of election results, I have determined that you may access the post-election resources and services described in Section 3 of the Act upon request.”
This opens the door for Biden who had since set up his own team for the transition process to access official services and documents.
