Tragedy occurred on Sunday afternoon at the Muda Lawal Stadium, Asero, Abeokuta when a player on trial at Nigerian National League side, Gateway FC, Usman Yusuf, slumped and died during a friendly match in the stadium.

VANTAGE NEWS gathered that the deceased player who played the first half of the friendly match against Sliema Wanderers reportedly slumped but was resuscitated by medics on ground.

Yusuf, who was said to be on trial at the club later died at the State Hospital, Ijaye where he was taken to for further medical attention.

Confirming the incident on Monday, the Media officer of the Gateway FC, Moses Ojewumi, said that Yusuf showed bad signs during the first half of the match and was attended to by the team doctor.

Ojewumi added that it was later in the night that a call came in from the camp that he had suffered a relapse, prompting him to be taken to State Hospital, Ijaiye where he died.
