The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the immediate deployment of 5 mobile police units to Edo State to fight criminal elements and cultists currently on rampage in the state.
Edo state has been witnessing clashes by rival cult groups and other criminal activities allegedly being carried out by escapees from two prison facilities in the state capital, Benin and Oko.
Some reports have it that no fewer than 7 persons have been killed in the state in the past one week as a result of the cult clashes and activities of criminal elements.
According to a report by Vanguard, a senior Police Officer disclosed that the five Mobile Police Units were possibly drawn from units in the North West and Middle Belt parts of the country.
He so stated the the IGP directed that all the escapee prisoners must be apprehended and returned to prisons.
The source also revealed that Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has pledged to support the police through the provisions of patrol vans and other logistics that would aid their work.
