The Lone Stars of Sierra Leone produced a highly spirited second half performance to draw 4-4 with the Super Eagles of Nigeria in an AFCON qualifier played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
The Sierra Leonians came into the second half of the game trailing the Super Eagles by 4-1.
Alex Iwobi gave Nigeria an early lead by scoring in the fourth minute of the encounter before Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen doubled the lead in the 21st minute.
Iwobi scored the third goal and his second of the match in the 27th minute.
Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze added his name to the scoresheet by extending Nigeria’s lead to four goals.
Kwame Quee gave the Lone Stars little hope when he scored in the 41st minute of the encounter.
It seemed the Super Eagles were coasting to victory but the Sierra Leonians had other plans.
Al-Hadji Kamara reduced the deficit to two goals in the 72nd minute.
Mustapha Rundu made it 4-3 in the 80th minute to put pressure on the super Eagles fumbling defence before Al-Hadji Kamara equalised in the 86th minute.
The draw ended Super Eagles perfect start to the qualifying campaign and boosts Sierra Leones chances as they prepare for the return leg against Nigeria on Monday.
