The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, on Tuesday, informed the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) about his decision to decamp to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
It is reported that Umahi told the Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus that he would leave the party for the APC because the ruling party would protect the interest of the Southeast in the 2023 elections.
According to a report by the Punch, Umahi told the members of the National Working Committee of the PDP that his decision to join the APC was irrevocable.
Others present at the meeting held at the Ebonyi State governors lodge in Abuja were Deputy National Secretary, Agbo Emmanuel; National Organising Secretary, Austin Akobondu; and Financial Secretary, Abdullahi Maibasira; National Women Leader, Mariya Waziri and Senator Sulieman Nazif.
It was reported that although the governor received the PDP leaders very well, he stood hsi ground despite attempts to make him see reasons to stay.
The report suggested that Umahi is optimistic that the APC was planning to zone the Presidency to the Southeast region, adding that he would stay back at PDP if the party agrees to zone the seat to the region.
