Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi converted a first half penalty to secure a loan goal victory for Argentina in a Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying match against Ecuador.
Messi scored from the spot in the 13 minute of the match played at the empty La Bombonera stadium which was the first round of games ahead of the 2022 World Cup in the South American qualifiers.
In other qualifying games, Luis Suarez opened the scoring through a penalty in the 40th minute for home side, Uruguay in the match against Chile.
Inter Milan’s Alexis Sanchez equalised in the 55th minute before Maximiliano Gomez scored an injury time winner to give the home side the maximum points.
Paraguay and Peru played out a 2 2 draw.
