The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has blasted members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for opposing the decamping of two representatives to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Two members of the House of Representatives, Ephraim Nwuzi who is representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in Rivers State, and David Abel representing Gashaka/Kurmi/Sardauna Federal Constituency in Taraba State, submitted letters of their defection to the House.

After reading their letters of defection, Gbajabiamila, Deputy Minority Leader, Toby Okechukwu; Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu; and leader of the PDP caucus, Kingsley Chinda, separately asked the Speaker to declare their seats vacant because there were no crises in the defectors’ respective states after raising constitutional points of order.

Gbajabiamila, however, described leaders of the opposition as hypocrites, recalling that he repeatedly protested against defections to the PDP during his time as the minority leader of the House.

He further accused the PDP of failing to set the exaample during their time as the ruling party.

The Speaker told the minority members that their points were noted, and asked if there were more defections.
