The candidates in the forthcoming Ondo State governorship poll, on Tuesday, in Akure, signed a Peace Accord in an event organised by the National Peace Committee (NPC) headed by former Head of State, General Abdulsalmi Abubakar (rtd).

In attendance at the event include; the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Hassan Kukah, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmud Yakubu, a representative of the Inspector General of Police and the major candidates and stakeholders in the election scheduled to hold October 10.

Major candidates in the election include the incumbent Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyitayo Jegede and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate, Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi.

Speaking shortly after signing the peace accord, the, candidate of the APC, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu,  promised  to abide by the deal and ensure that his supporters were of good conduct.

Candidate of the PDP, Iyitayo Jegede while speaking at the event stated that he is “absolutely committed to a peaceful election: before the election, that’s during campaigns; during the election when votes are cast & after the election when the results have been announced.”

The candidate of ZLP, Agboola Ajayi also promised to be peaceful and to call on his supporters to be peaceful and reasonable.
