A suspected cybercriminal, Adebayo Olawale; and his pastor, Gbenga Adesoju, have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
EFCC made this known through a statement issued by the Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren on Saturday.
According to EFCC, Adebayo and Gbenga, were arrested for allegedly defrauding one Umar Hayatu of Lafiya Quarters in Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe State to the tune of N12.7m.
EFCC revealed that the prime suspect, Adebayo, contacted the victim several times through social media platforms and phone calls under pretence that his parents have a company abroad and will make him (victim) the Nigerian manager of the company.
Adebayo and Gbenga also sent fake pictures of houses and cars that would be given to the victim as fringe benefits as soon as the company commences operation.
The suspects were arrested at Ile-Ife after relatives of the victim jointly wrote a petition to the Zonal Office of EFCC.
