The Senator representing Adamawa North, Elisha Abbo, has been slapped a N50 million fine to be paid as compensation to a female attendant at a sex-toy shop, Osimibibra Warmate, whom he assaulted on May 11, 2019.
Justice Samira Bature of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Maitama, Abuja, on Monday, awarded the damages against Abbo in her judgement on the fundamental rights enforcement suit instituted by Warmate against the serving Senator.
Abbo, earlier won the case of assault on Warmate instituted against him before a Magistrate Court in Zuba, Abuja by the Nigerian Police Force, VANTAGE NEWS reported.
In the earlier ruling, the Magistrate, Abdullahi Ilelah, said the police failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the lawmaker assaulted Warmate on May 11, 2019. He hence upheld a no-case submission.
A video of Abbo assaulting Warmate on May 11, 2019 went viral on social media; and elicited condemnation from members of the public who criticised the Senator for conducting himself in such a manner despite his revered position as a sitting lawmaker of the federal republic.
Warmate, approached the FCT High Court through her legal team that includes Esosa Omo-Usoh and Nelson Onuoha and sued Abbo in a fundamental rights enforcement suit marked FCT/CV/2393/19.
The plaintiff’s case was upheld by Justice Bature after hearing on Monday, and Abbo was asked to pay N50 million as compensation to Warmate.
