Nigerian-born New Zealand Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) mixed martial middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, retained his title after beating undefeated Brazilian, Paulo Costa through a second-round TKO at UFC 253.

Both UFC stars put their undefeated records on the line in the middleweight belt fight at the “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, early Sunday morning.

Costa (13-1) and Adesanya (20-0) during the pre-match briefings threw jibes at each other with the Brazilian accusing the Nigerian-born of dodging Jon Jones, a former Light-heavyweight champion.

Adesanya, however, showed his class and superiority in the one-sided contest by hitting Costa with a counter-punch in the second round having started from the first few seconds of the bout to attack the Brazilians left leg in the fight.

Although Costa tried to respond by landing a few kicks, it wasn;t enough to change the course of the fight.

Costa, who has four wins in UFC come by way of KO/TKO had a bruising leg at the start of the second round before having cut opened on his head by Adesanya.

Adesanya relentlessly struck Costa after getting on top of him before the referee ended the fight to the joy of the Nigerian-born New Zealander.
