The Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA) is partnering with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to curb waste challenge in the state by asking corps members to pick 200 plastic bottles each.
ASWAMA launched an initiative in partnership with NYSC to pick 5 million plastic bottles in the state.
VANTAGE NEWS reports that the corps members were seen around Onitsha and other parts of the state picking plastic bottles and packing them in bags to be presented as evidence to NYSC officials in their various secretariats.
In the letter obtained by VANTAGE NEWS, the state coordinator of NYSC, John Ukor, directed all corps members to start picking individually and be gathering the plastics immediately.
He asked the corps members to take the gathered plastics to the Local Government headquarters where the ASWAMA will take them for counting.
A notification from the Local Government Inspector of Onitsha North reads, “Sequel to the invitation of the ASWAMA to partner with corps members to effect picking of 5 million plastic bottles ( both smashed and normal ones) in order to curb waste challenge in Anambra state and Nigeria at large, I am directed to inform all corps members to start picking individually and be gathering them immediately.
“They will have a day to bring them at the LG headquarters where the ASWAMA will finally take them for counting. The grand finale will be from 22nd- 27th of September, 2020. Thank you.”
