Barely 24 hours after a deadly fuel tanker explosion burnt over 23 persons alive in Lokoja, Kogi State, another truck explosion has occurred in the Iju area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred at a gas station in Ajuwon, Iju-Ishaga when a tanker offloading gas exploded.

It was learnt that the discharging valve of the tanker was faulty, which eventually ignited fire.

The fire spread to nearby buildings and shops. It also burnt a reported 15 parked cars in the area.

VANTAGE NEWS also gathered that 23 residential buildings and 40 shops around the scene of the explosion were badly affected, while some were totally razed.

An eyewitness told VANTAGE NEWS that she heard a loud sound before seeing smoke in the area around 3 pm Thursday afternoon. She stated that some persons were injured.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), through a statement signed by its  Director-General, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, states that an unknown truck truck conveying gasoline had a lone accident and exploded.

Oke-Osanyintolu revealed that the impact of the explosion led to fire on adjoining buildings which led to the burning of several vehicles.

LASEMA also states that several persons were injured and have been taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

As at the time of filing this report, the inferno is still being battled by the combined efforts of LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service Team, Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Denfence Corps (NSCDC).
