The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal to handle petitions that would likely arise from last Saturdays Edo State gubernatorial election has been constituted by the President of Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem.

This was disclosed by the Secretary of the tribunal, Sunday Martins, through a statement issued in Abuja, Monday.

According to Martins, the tribunal which is now open, will use the High Court Complex (Election Petition Court Hall) approved by Justice Esther Amenaghawon Edigin for hearing of any appeal arising from the election.

Although President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have congratulated the winner, Godwin Obaseki, it remains to be seen if the State chapter of the party will appeal against the victory.

Recall that VANTAGE NEWS reported the Edo State chapter of the APC rejected the results citing alleged arbitrary arrest of the party’s supporters, and fabrication of election figures.

Imo State Governor and member of APC Edo election council, Hope Uzodinma also rejected the result, stating that the entire process in Edo State was marred by irregularities from officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who sabotaged the system, making it difficult for the APC votes to count.
