Man Bags 21 Years Imprisonment For Defrauding American-Based Woman

A man named Paul Adesanya has been handed a 21 years prison sentence for defrauding an American-based Nigerian woman, Oluwatoyin Akinwole, of the sum of N36.7m, and posting her nude pictures on social media.

Justice Mojisola Dada of the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja on Friday, handed Adesanya the prison sentence after examining evidence brought before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Adesanya, who also posted Akinwole’s nude pictures on the social media, later reported that she committed suicide in 2017 by jumping over the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.

EFCC’s Prosecuting Counsel, Samuel Daji, said that the actions of Adesanya violated sections 1(1) and 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud Act; as well as sections 278 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

Justice Dada found Adesanya guilty of the three counts filed against him by the EFCC and convicted him.

Adesanya was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for the counts one and two, from the date of arraignment, and they are to run concurrently.

He was also sentenced to 7 years in prison for count three, for stealing.
