While In Opposition, I Fully Supported Adesina, Buhari Says As He Meets AfDB President

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, met with the newly re-elected President of the Africa Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwunmi Adesina where he congratulated and wished him the best in his second tenure in office.

Buhari, noted that although Adesina was a Minister under the Peoples Democratic Party’s leadership in 2015 in his first bid to become AfDB President, he fully supported him because he is a good Nigerian.

He also congratulated Adesina in person, stating that the AfDB President has been supportive of his administration.

Buhari said, “In 2015, Akinwunmi Adesina was a Minister with the PDP government, and I belonged to the APC. I fully supported him for the AfDB Presidency that first time, because he’s a good Nigerian. He proved to be competent, made us proud, and I was delighted to recommend him the second time.

“Today I congratulated him in person on winning re-election to a second and final term in office. Nothing succeeds like success. He has been very supportive of our administration, and I wish him all the best in this second term.”

VANTAGE NEWS reported that Adesina was re-elected by the Board of Governors of the Bank at an AfDB’s virtual annual meeting held  in Abidjan in August.

Adesina, was on Tuesday, September 1, sworn-in for a second term in office. 

During his swearing-in ceremony, Adesina promised to pay greater attention to quality growth, especially in the areas of health, climate, and the environment in Africa.
